The
late Rev. George W. Fields along with the late Rev. G. C. Bishop
founded one of the first Full Gospel/Pentecostal churches in
Vicksburg
in 1947. That church is still going strong today ministering to
the
Vicksburg
area.
In
1989, at a women’s conference in Nederland, Texas, a prophecy
was given that a church would be birthed in Vicksburg from Triumph
Church of Southeast Texas, where Randy and Renee’ Marshall Clark
are pastors. Pastor Randy Clark assumed apostolic oversight of the
new work along with founding elders Wayne Fields and Betty Price
and services began in the Fields home. The church began to grow
holding services at the Fields home and the Vicksburg National
Guard Armory. It was incorporated in summer, 1990 as Triumph
Church of Vicksburg.
In
August 1990, Rev. Charles Bosarge and his wife
Regina
moved to
Vicksburg
to become the first full time Pastors of Triumph Church. In
January 1991, the church moved to the corner of South and Walnut
streets. Triumph experienced rapid growth and in 1993, the church
purchased property and built the first building at its present
location.
In
spring 1994, Pastor Bosarge announced that God was leading them to
the
Jackson
,
Mississippi
area to open a new church there. In late 1994, Dan and Sue Landry became Pastors of Triumph
Church. The church continued to grow, expanding facilities in
1998.
In
spring 2000, Pastors Dan and Sue Landry resigned as pastors. Seven
months later Mike Fields, the son of founding elder Wayne and
Joyce Fields and the grandson of the late Rev. George W. Fields,
was installed as pastor of Triumph. Mike along with his wife Zena
had served faithfully at Triumph since its beginning as Elders and
Mike as Minister of Music since 1995.
Triumph
has experienced tremendous growth in the past few years expanding
its staff and leadership as the church ministers to hundreds each
week. An additional nine acres of land and two buildings adjoining
the original property was purchased in 2001 that now house a
Christian
School. The Main campus now has over 25,000 square feet and a worship
center seating over 800.
Triumph’s
student ministry, GENERATE, ministers to hundreds each Wednesday
night. Gifted song-writer and worship leader Landy Maughon leads a
music & arts team that brings a powerful worship experience
for every believer.
A
caring atmosphere, quality leadership, and community outreach has
attracted people from all ages, religious backgrounds, races, and
walks of life. Known throughout the city as a model for racial
harmony and diversity,
Triumph
Church
has become a congregation of nearly equal numbers of Caucasian and
African-American members. Early prophecies associated with
Triumph
Church
foretold that it would be a culturally diverse, Spirit–filled,
bondage breaking church of mercy, restoration and healing.
There
is a new generation rising at
Triumph
Church
, a generation who doesn't believe in limits, and who believes all
things are possible through Christ Jesus. Pastor Mike Fields and
his wife Zena are leading this generation with the uncompromising
gospel of Jesus Christ and practical daily application that is
transforming lives.
